Cancer in Astrology:

Cancer is a Zodiac Sign/Constellation that sits between Gemini and Leo. The Cancer archetype is the Crab, and with that, has complex meaning and mythology associated with it’s energies.

Cancer Mythology:

During Hercules’ 12 Labors, he was sent to battle a dragon/serpent/sea monster/female water snake with multiple heads called “Hydra.” Every time Hercules would cut off one of Hydra’s heads, two more heads would grow in it’s place. Eventually, Hercules’ figured out that if he cauterized (applied metal + heat) to the wound, the heads would stop growing.

Hera (Zeus’ wife) notoriously HATED Hercules’ and she wanted him dead, so once he started winning against the Hydra, Hera stepped in to try to make the task harder for him. She sent a giant Crab to kill Hercules during the middle of his battle. What she didn’t anticipate however, was that Hercules easily crushed the crab with his strength. To honor the Crab’s effort, Hera placed the Crab into the sky as the Zodiac sign/constellation of Cancer.
